Van Buren United Methodist Church
is a growing church of growing Christians committed to Jesus Christ and
ministering together in His name.
People in the congregation are
committed to seeking God’s will in their lives and for His church. As
result of this commitment, the congregation has grown over the past five
years to an average Sunday morning attendance of 175 to 200. Each week
the congregation enjoys the warm fellowship of believers, as they grow
closer to God through Bible-based sermons and inspirational music from a
thirty-voice choir. A variety of special music is a welcome and important
part of worship.
The spiritual growth of the
congregation is evidence by participation in Thursday evening Bible study,
women and men’s fellowship groups, and family events.
The spiritual mentoring of youth
continues to be an important part of Van Buren United Methodist. An
active youth fellowship of 30-35 meet on Sunday evening and also attend
Sunday morning worship together. The church aids in the growth of these
youth by sponsoring retreats, mission trips, and church camps. |
The congregation has revitalized
Sunday School in recent years to make ministry children an important
priority. Vacation Bible School supplements the children’s program with
an in-depth study during the summer. Children’s ministry also includes a
Junior Church of 25-30 and regular United Methodist Kids activities.
Spiritual growth in the
congregation has deepened the fellowship among the people.
Frequently there are gatherings of all ages in the new fellowship hall for
meals, conversation, and fun. Often groups gather away from the church in
retreat settings.
Van Buren United Methodists are
also known for extensive outreach to all people in the local community.
They are recognized in Van Buren and Grant County as a generous
congregation, active on behalf of those with spiritual as well as physical
needs.
Van Buren United Methodist is
founded on a rich heritage of believers. The congregation continues to be
committed to the advancement of God’s kingdom by making disciples of Jesus
Christ. They not only have been, but are, and intend to be a growing
church of growing Christians. |
